Amazingly I actually danced last weekend... well, kind of.
Life sometimes does throw you opportunities that don't seem like them at the time. To be honest if I'd been asked a week in advance I would have run to the hills. But to be asked live on air by Mr. Smooth himself, Brooke Howard-Smith, and the fact that boxer Shane Cameron was also doing it AND it was for a good cause (Christchurch earthquake), how could I refuse?
Yes the Rise Pp for Christchurch earthquake appeal telethon - 12 hours of fundraising in 3 NZ cities and cities all over the world as well (that's a lot of TV time to fill). I was at Te Papa in Wellington for the dancing with the stars challenge,with the other hot steppers Shane Cameron and Maa Nonu, and its funny what the human body is capable of when you have a terrifying deadline like live TV confronting you.
You dance with someone you have never met ,yet within hours you'll be gyrating (kind of) and trying to throw them around the dance floor, at the same time hoping to maybe get one out of every four moves right, without looking like a spaz or dropping them on the floor.
Look we've all watched Dancing With The Stars at least once, trust me I used to bag the show but this dancing thing is something pretty amazing (as was my dance partner Kristy). Dancers are special people I've decided, I'll even admit I got a bit hooked... that was after I actually saw myself on the telly and then decided I'd better stick to radio. But well done everyone who watched and donated - 2.5 million bucks for Chch is nothing to sneeze at.
Apart from legs that are so sore (I now limp and have aching feet), I'm all good, although sometimes I wish I was brown as white men just can't dance.
