I must be crazy...

Roger Farrelly's Blog - 8 Mar

Apparentely there is a race in Alaska called the Iditarod. It is a crazy 2000 kilometre trek over ice that involves incredible levels of endurance and very well trained dogs. Sometimes the temperatures get to minus 70, it is without a doubt one of the dumbest sports on the planet.

I raise this issue because it is half that distance to Christchurch, and it still took a whole team of us pretty much 2 days to ride the distance on an exercycle. Thank god we weren't on real bikes as we'd still be going, a bunch of dogs on ice could probably do it quicker.

I would like to thank every one in the "Rog Will Ride " event. If you haven't caught the total we rose with your help over 20,000 bucks with more money coming in for the Red Cross appeal for Christchurch. I also wrote into the rules that I would pay the Red Cross $1 for every k someone else rode for me. After having a snooze on Thurs night, I woke up and discovered night show host Dumbass Dunc and hot intern Gumbo had rattled off a few hundred ks, so I'm guessing I owe the Red Cross about another 400 dollars.

I'd also like to thank Hamish from Rebel Sport for the exercycle bike which hurt my ass probably more than getting caught at a gay bar could ever do. The bike is still at work and surprisingly no one is keen to get back on it for a ride.

My next charity fundraiser is something less full on, I've heard Paul Ego is organising a knit-a-thon,it might be more me.

Speaking of fundraisers, this crazy guy is going one step further and run the 1000 kilometeres to Christchurch to raise money - here's his web site.

Have a good week,

Rog
