BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT THE ROCK: After all the radio stations I’ve worked on - finally feel like I suit this radio format the most. There’s not much you can’t do working for The Rock. I’m also right into music journalism and The Rock let me do what I love, “Off The Record” (NZ Music Feature) & “The Rock Newswire (Music News). The best music format by a long way for me.
WORST THING ABOUT WORKING AT THE ROCK: Bryce Casey – The mans the modern day equivalent of Frank Spencer (Some Mothers Do Have Em’) – Needs to pull his pants up.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Being involved setting up Classic Rock 92.5 in Tauranga – in the mid nineties. Meeting & working alongside some very cool people. And despite being totally under resourced we all made stuff happen. Taught me how to solve problems & get on with it.
Interviewing Rock legends Bono & Dave Grohl in the flesh - very normal people
Being responsible for taking Radio Hauraki to double digits (over 10% NZ music)
Finalist at the NZ Radio Awards 2006 for best Non-breakfast metro radio show
Working with Jono a very sharp young guy who brings out the worst in me, well.
DUMBEST THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE: Jesus, what a question!
I’ve done so many dumb things in my career.
Probably the time in Aussie while recording the midday news bulletin when I failed to edit out an expletive that I yelled after the third attempt at pronouncing the Police Senior Sergeant’s name. The hardest thing to live down in a small community when the leading story is a local homicide and everyone in town is listening to you for the story and all they get is this kiwi dick-head fucking up all their names (they were all Italians and Greeks where I was working).
FAVOURITE BANDS: Easy – In no particular order:
AC/DC (Aus)
Cold Chisel (Aus)
Weta (NZ)
The Cruel Sea (Aus)
Split Enz (NZ)
Jordan Luck (NZ)
The Clash (Eng)
The White Stripes (US)
Sonny Boy Williams (US)
WHAT DO YOU DRIVE - WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT YOU: I’m driving a 2000 AU Ford Fairlane. It’s a little bit pimped – in a very mafia kind of way
WHAT DO YOU DO TO WIND DOWN: I’ve just bought a media centre so I’m currently into recording shows on UK TV, The History and Discovery Channels. I love comedies & old movies.
Cooking – to wind down, Doing something with your hands as opposed to your brain.
Working on the house – Always something to do when you own an old house.
WHAT ARE YOU UP TO IN THE WEEKENDS: I like to get away with friends for long weekends & going out for a night on the town. I used to ride motorbikes off road, but recently too busy with working Radio TV & Music & Band event stuff.
FAV SPORT ON TV: RRRRRRUgby !
WHICH SUPER 14 TEAM DO YOU SUPPORT: Canterbury – Good hard southern men.
DO YOU PLAY ANY SPORTS: I want to learn to fly in the little while.
WHICH ROCK JOCK IS MOST LIKELY TO GET YOU INTO TROUBLE: Leah Pananpa –
The Pineapple & I have worked together before & we know each other quite well – she knows how to push my buttons
IDEAL BREAK: Rent a beach front holiday home – Sleep & read books & play games, laugh and eat well.
HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR COFFEE: Strong Long & Black
FAV BEER/BEVERAGE: Heineken, Wild Turkey & Pepsi
FAVOURITE FAST FOOD: Chicken Laksa or Tom Ya Guy (Thai)
