Well, there’s only one story in sport at the moment and that’s the salary cap cheating of the Melbourne Storm. NRL boss David Gallop’s taken away two premierships, three minor premierships, fined them two million dollars, and not allowed them to score any competition points this season. While everyone seems to agree on taking away their trophies and money, but it’s the last point that is dividing the rugby league community. People like Channel 9’s Phil Gould believe the Storm should be allowed to compete for points this season if they slash their team’s salaries now.
Phil Gould and David Gallop aren’t mates...
Now, I feel very sorry for the Storm players who I’m sure had no idea that they were cheating, but there’s no way Melbourne should be able to accrue any points this season. In fact, I think Gallop should’ve gone further and given every team that plays Melbourne two points. After all, the Storm are cheating even if they do go back under the salary cap. They put together a roster with 700,000 dollars more than any other club this season, so even if they all take a paycut, they’ve still got an illegal squad. The Storm should just keep their own tally of points and keep tabs on where they’d be on the table if they didn’t have all their points taken away. How else can you stay motivated to play week-in, week-out for no rewards? It’ll be very interesting to see where the players go next season … heaven knows the Warriors could do with some more talent...
