A Game Of Thrones prequel has been 100% confirmed, here's everything we know so far

Game of Thrones 11/06/2018

With only six more episodes to go in perhaps the biggest television project in history, GOT fans have a new show to look forward too.

Talks of spin offs have been circulating for years, but now a prequel has been `100% confirmed by HBO.

Our mates over at Newshub report more on this story:

But don't expect to see young Ned Stark - it'll be set "thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones", the network said on Saturday (NZ time).

"The series chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it's not the story we think we know."

The showrunner will be Jane Goldman, whose previous work includes the Kingsmen movies, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class. George RR Martin, who wrote the books Game of Thrones is based on, is involved too.

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss won't be involved in the as-yet untitled new series, which will air at least a year after the final episode of Game of Thrones, set to air in 2019.

"I want it to stand as the finale of the greatest TV show of all time - I don't want to do anything that infringes on that," HBO president Casey Bloys told Deadline in January.

Game of Thrones, based on the series of books A Song of Ice and Fire, has become one of the world's biggest TV shows since its 2011 debut.
