Yesterday, sad news broke that rock legend Tom Petty had passed away, after being found unconscious in his hotel room after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to hospital but died shortly later after being taken off life support.
It goes without saying that Tom Petty was one of the biggest and most respected rock musicians of all time. His career spun four decades - that's forty fucking years - and up until just last week, the man was still touring and selling out arenas.
His sudden death has hit hard with both fans of his work and fellow musicians, with many taking to social media to share their thoughts and memories of the great man.
Bruce Springsteen, one of the few names in the world that can match Petty's career longevity and consistent greatness, took to Twitter last night to post a rather touching tribute to his good mate, who he called his "long lost brother".
The tweets read:
Down here on E Street, we’re devastated and heartbroken over the death of Tom Petty. Our hearts go out to his family and bandmates.
I’ve always felt a deep kinship with his music. A great songwriter and performer, whenever we saw each other…
…it was like running into a long lost brother. Our world will be a sadder place without him.
Goddamnit, who's been chopping onions up in here.
Rest in peace, Tom Petty.
