Toto have come up with their own response to Weezer covering their hits 'Africa' and 'Rosanna', by revealing on Twitter that they've covered Weezer's 'Hash Pipe.'
If you're not sure about the Weezer/Toto context, earlier this year Weezer covered Toto's famous track 'Africa'. This was off the back of a Weezer fan's Twitter account going viral for pressuring the band to do exactly that, and Weezer deciding to follow through, because, the internet said so.
Toto have debuted their Weezer cover on a L.A-based radio show fronted by Ted Stryker, but it'll be officially available for all of us to hear from the 10th of August.
In their interview with Stryker, Steve Lukather and Steve Porcaro revealed they originally wanted to cover 'Beverly Hills' but decided to go with 'Hash Pipe' it had a "better melody"
We added a couple of our kitschy little things to it
“I love the message, you know what I mean?… And we wanted to do it justice." Lukather adds.
“We wanted to do our thing to it, but still pay respect to it. And we added a couple of our kitschy little things to it, which I hope that they laugh [at]. We wish we could be in the room when they hear it.”
The Toto boys also gave Weezer's cover a B++ during the same interview.
Looking forward to hearing their cover. Wonder if John Day will give that one a hoon too?
