WATCH: Arctic Monkey's reveal the moment they found out 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' hit no.1

Arctic Monkeys 15/08/2018

Way back in 2006, Arctic Monkeys were just a bunch of unknown fluffy-haired hipsters who liked to stand around and make music.

The world had no idea what future musical goodness we were all in store for when 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' hit the charts... But when the track hit the scene that was the moment the world knew these four scruffy Brits were something worth paying attention too.

'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor; was the lead single from their debut Whatever People Say I Am, I Am Not.  During a recent interview with Apple Music the band recall the moment they found out it had taken out the coveted number one spot in the charts... And while it may have stayed there the week, that set off their success and essentially changed their lives forever.

So, naturally, when the received the news, they were all at the pub.

“I would definitely catagorise that as a moment that felt unreal at the time,” Turner said.

“We all went to the pub near where we’d grown up and they announced that it was the number one record. They put the radio on in the pub and everyone just jumped up. Everybody was there – on the pool table [cheering].”

“That were one that was instant,” piped up drummer Matt Helders.

“All the other things, you can see them coming a little bit and prepare a bit but that was like [woah]. A complete shock.”

What a yarn.
