Chris Cornell's widow, Vicky Cornell has filed a medical malpractice suit against his doctor for overprescribing the rock and roll legend.
Vicky says Doctor Robert Koblin “negligently and repeatedly” prescribed Cornell “dangerous mind-altering controlled substances… which impaired [his] cognition, clouded his judgement and caused him to engage in dangerous impulsive behaviors that he was unable to control, costing him his life.”
Vicky is officially suing the doctor for a failure to obtain informed consent and wilful misconduct, among several other charges.
Although the coroner's report ruled Cornell's death a sucide, Vicky has repeatedly blamed the drugs.
On their last phone call, the day the singer died, Vicky said; “I noticed he was slurring his words; he was different. When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him. What happened is inexplicable and I am hopeful that further medical reports will provide additional details."
The coroner's report identified seven different drugs in Chris Cornell's system when he died. Including a heavy dosing of Ativan.
Vicky's suit claims the doctor knew Chris was an "addiction-prone individual", she says his prescriptions were negligent.
Rolling Stone report more on this. We'll keep you posted as this suit unfolds.
