Green Day are about to give fans the chance to own some epic band-used gear, with over 100 items set to go on sale on instrument marketplace Reverb.com from February 7.
The collection will include 44 guitars owned by frontman Billie Joe Armstong, five drum kits from drummer Tré Cool, and a range of amps, cases, recording gear and pedals. All instruments have either been played live or used in-studio.
"After 30 years of collecting odds and ends and really good stuff, I have to sell some of it off,” said Armstrong.
The sale will includes some special pieces of Green Day history, including the first guitar Armstrong owned and the one he used to record the 'F.O.D', speaker cabinets that are still marked from a mud-fight at Woodstock ‘94 and drum kits that have toured the world (and some remnants that have been set ablaze).
Some highlights include:
Harmony Stella acoutic guitar - Armstong's first guitar
A rare '58 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top - one of Armstrong's favourite on-stage guitars
A 2011 TV Yellow Gibson Les Paul Junior Guitar that Armstrong smashed during the 2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival (repaired and now in working condition)
OCDP Silver Sparkle Drum Kit that Cool set on fire during the ‘Pop Disaster’ tour in 2002 (unrestored)
Gretsch USA Custom drum kit used on the Uno!, Dos!, Tré! trilogy of albums - only one left (Cool burned the rest)
Leedy White Marine Pearl snare he used on the band’s 21st Century Breakdown tour.
"Every guitar has its own character. Each one reflects who you are – the kind of songwriter you are, the kind of guitar player that you are, " said Armstrong.
"Used guitars, in particular, come with a history to them. I love the character you can see looking at a fretboard that’s been used."
The full Green Day shop goes live on Febuary 7, but you can browse the items and register your interest here.
