WATCH: Dave Grohl surprises nurse who contracted COVID-19 with emotional 'Everlong' performance

"I feel like I'm having a coronavirus dream."

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl performed a surprise acoustic version of 'Everlong' for a frontline trauma nurse who contracted coronavirus.

TJ Riley was honoured as part of Jimmy Kimmel's #HealthcareHeroes series, in which the late night talk show host pays tribute to medical personnel fighting COVID-19.

Grohl jumped on a video chat with Kimmel and Riley, who had been explaining what it was like to recover from coronavirus, which saw him suffer from a fever for 12 days.

"Oh shit, Dave! Dave! I'm a huge, huge, huge fan," Riley said on seeing his idol.

"I feel like I'm having a coronavirus dream."

Armed with his guitar, Grohl launched into a solo version of 'Everlong', which he dedicated to Riley.

The Jacobi Medical Center staffer appeared to hold back tears as Grohl played. Images of Riley and his co-workers were shown on screen during the performance.

Riley said 60 percent of his medical colleagues had contracted COVID-19 and his parents and husband also caught the deadly virus, but they had all since recovered.
