Iconic Kiwi band Blindspott are celebrating a milestone - the band's self-titled album has reached the top of the charts, 18 years after its debut.

In a post onFacebookon Saturday the band members thanked all their fans and supporters for the huge achievement.

"No New Zealand artists and nobody, Kiwi or otherwise, debuted at number 1 twice which this album has done," read the post.

"[We entered] the chart at number 1 in 2002 and came back in at number 1 again this week!"

"Cant wait to get out on the road to perform this album for you in September!"

Blindspott was formed in 1997 with members Damian Alexander on vocals, Marcus Powell playing guitar, Shelton Woolright on drums, Gareth Fleming playing bass and Karl Vilisini - also known as DJ Dlay - playing keyboard.

The band skyrocketed to fame with their first single 'Nil By Mouth' in 2001. Their self-titled album Blindspott was released in 2002 and went platinum in New Zealand within the first week of its release.

The band broke up in 2007, playing their last show at Auckland's Powerstation in August. However in February 2020 they announced they had reformed and would tour the country through April and March.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown all shows were postponed until September.
