Red Hot Chili Peppers announce surprise double album, ‘Return of the Dream Canteen’

They also revealed that the first single will be called 'Tippa My Tongue'.

Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced a new double-album is on its way, what a treat.

The band announced their second studio album of 2022 over the weekend, 'Return of the Dream Canteen.' They shared the news onstage with fans at Empower Field at Mile High show in Colorado.

40-minutes into the sold-out show, bassist Flea announced from the stage:

"We have a brand new double album stacked to the brim... It's fucking good news, man."

He also revealed that the first single will be called 'Tippa My Tongue'.

The upcoming double-album, Return of the Dream Canteen, will be produced by Rick Rubin, who produced the band's latest album Unlimited Love, as well as 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik and 1999’s Californication.

Speaking about the album in a statement, the band said:

"We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way.

"Once we found that slip stream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waistband of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream.

"When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well we figured it out. 2 double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first or should that be reversed.

"‘Return of the Dream Canteen’ is everything we are and ever dreamed of being. It’s packed. Made with the blood of our hearts."

In an Instagram post, Flea wrote that the upcoming album is "the absolute best of who we are."

Return of the Dream Canteen is set for release on October 14 via Warner Records.
