Guns N' Roses 'November Rain' becomes first video older than YouTube to reach 1 billion views

It's not the band's only vid to reach the milestone.

Guns N' Roses' iconic 'November Rain' video hit the 30-year-old mark last month and has now been revealed as the first video older than YouTube to reach 1 billion views.

In July of 2018, 'November Rain' exceeded 1 billion views, so the fact that in another four years, it has racked up nearly 2 billion views in total is bloody brilliant.

Guns N' Roses earned their very own shout-out in a special '1 Billion View Club' video posted by YouTube, not only for their 1992 video surpassing the milestone but also for their 1987 single 'Sweet Child O' Mine' being the first video from the 1980s to reach 1 billion views.

Both songs reaching this milestone prove just how iconic and timeless their music truly is.

Head of YouTube’s Catalog Music Ryan Thornton praised the band’s music in a blog post:

"It's easy to forget just how big a billion really is. It means the music has travelled through time, and the fandom came with it and evolved."

MTV reported in 2009 that the 9-minute video cost the band $1.5 million to make.

It was the most expensive video at the time of its release, but, considering the load of views it has, we can say the investment was definitely worth it.

The ‘1 Billion Views Club’ video also features a shout-out commemorating 10 years since Psy uploaded the mega-hit ‘Gangnam Style’ on the video platform.

Within six months, the video had garnered 1 billion views, which became the very first video to reach the benchmark on YouTube, and thus kicked off their Billion Views Club.

A massive congrats to the lads on reaching this milestone, and here’s to seeing ‘November Rain’ reach that special 2 billion mark in the near future.
