Kiwi rock legend Jon Toogood has confirmed rumors that Shihad are indeed writing new material and gave The Rumble some insight into what it will sound like - spoiler alert - it's gonna be "real heavy."
"Yeah we're writing, and the music's real heavy," Toogood confirmed.
Bryce commented: "It has been for a couple of albums now, does it surprise you that it is still real heavy?"
Toogood replied: "I think around that time that we toured with Black Sabbath, and went back through our back catalogue and went 'actually, it's really fun to play stuff of 'Churn' and 'Killjoy' and 'General Electric'' - and we were just like - 'we do heavy good.. it's our strength.'"
When we get in a room, that's the sound we make, so let's mine that.
Toogood said he felt Shihad's last album in 2014, 'FVEY', was one of their best records, and the new album will be "that, but times 10."
"Some of the new stuff makes that (FVEY) sound like a pop record."

Before that album drops, Toogood will join will join some of New Zealand's best artists and musicians to pay homage to Neil Young and celebrate the 40th anniversary of his Live Rust album with three concerts in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland this August.
