Kiwi filmmaker Taika Waititi has made his first foray into Hollywood blockbusters withThor: Ragnarok - and now the newly released teaser trailer for the film has set tongues wagging.

Set to Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song', the trailer starts with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) well and truly defeated at the hands of the villainous Hela (Cate Blanchett); she has tied him in chains and removed his mighty hammer, leaving him stranded and powerless on the other side of the universe.

Knowing he is in a race against time to get back to Asgard and stop the oncoming Ragnarok - the Asgardian version of the apocalypse - brought on by Hela, the trailer shows him somehow free from prison but still without his hammer, and in unfamiliar territory.

After being taken into custody by a group in the foreign land, he is enlisted as a fighter in what appears to be some sort of gladiatorial battle, a contest headed up by Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum).

While preparing to face a fighter in the arena, a doorway bursts open to reveal the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) - an entrance which brings the best moment of the trailer.

Thor immediately lights up and yells, "Yes!" before turning to the crowd and shouting, "We know each other! He's a friend from work!" - but it appears as though Hulk has become so conditioned to violence that he's still keen on a fight, and they are seen launching at each other as the trailer comes to a close.

Thor: Ragnarok, which is also said to feature the likes of Sam Neill, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Benedict Cumberbatch, is set to be released on October 24 in New Zealand.
