Weezer has recruited the one-and-only Weird Al Yankovic to star as Rivers Cuomo, along with a band of Weezer doppelgangers, for their 'Africa' music video.
And rest assured, it's weird as f*%k.
You've got Weird Al parodying Weezer, parodying Toto.
The video recreates Weezer's 'Sweater Song' video, shot for shot.
So, they're splicing 1982, 1994 and 2018 into a four-minute video.
Are we in a musical time warp? Some kind of buck wild melodic inception?
Weezer's 'Africa' cover is the tune that just can't be stopped.
What started as a stitch up on Twitter (where one fan campaigned her wee heart out,'til the band eventually gave in), has eventuated into Weezer's biggest hit in over a decade, their first track in twelve years to make America's Hot 100 - and their first song EVER to hit no.1 on Billboard's Rock Airplay chart.
God damn. That's one hell of a stitch up.
