Metallica's upcoming 'S&M2' concert sold out in minutes after tickets went on sale. But lucky for those of us that missed out (and don't live in San Francisco), the band has accounced the show will play in 3,000 movie theaters around the world on 9 October.

The film will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Metallica's groundbreaking S&M live album playing alongside the San Francisco Symphony.

The band say they'll be performing some tracks from their first S&M album, as well as adaptions of songs that have been released since.

The list of participating theaters are still being confirmed and tickets are expected to go on sale on 7 August.

If you're keen to see Metallica perform live on the big screen, you can sign up for alerts at the dedicated Metallica film here.

Or better yet, see Metallica live for yourself at their second New Zealand show in November. You can still get tickets here.
