An English bloke who farted in a cop’s face has been sent to jail for 34 months.

41-year-old Matthew Hapgood was caught shoplifting from a Tesco back in March, where he stole around $63 worth of alcohol, and vape products from a petrol station.

When police arrested Hapgood, he decided breaking the law wasn’t enough, so he broke wind in the officer’s face too.

On Friday (August 26), he pleaded guilty to robbery, shoplifting, possession of a bladed article and criminal damage at Oxford Crown Court.

Although Hapgood wasn’t arrested just for farting, we’re sure it wouldn’t have helped his case.

This isn’t the first time a fart has been involved in a crime.

LADbible reports that back in 2020, a bloke in Austria was fined around $812 for farting loudly near some cops. He was given the fine for ‘offending public decency’ by ‘farting provocatively’ at police officers.

The bloke argued in court that farting is a ‘biological process,’ and that farting is covered by freedom of expression.

His fine was then brought down to $162.
