Aussie teenager rushed to hospital after shoving golf-ball in rectum

Doctors spent over two hours trying to remove the ball.

It’s a hole in one! But not the good kind.

A young Aussie lad was recently rushed to the emergency department after he shoved a golf ball up the back door, according to a medical journal report.

When the fourteen-year-old boy realised he wasn’t able to get the gold ball out, he panicked and told his mum, who immediately drove him to the emergency department.

Luckily he wasn’t in any pain and the ball wasn’t obstructing his bowel, but x-rays showed the ball had made its way to his sigmoid colon (the end of the large intestine), making it a tricky task for doctors to remove.

Doctors spent over two hours trying to remove the ball while the young lad was under general anaesthesia, trying out different methods like a suction cup, medical net, quad-prong grasper and a balloon catheter.

Unfortunately, none of these methods worked, so they tried a different approach.

Doctors explained in the medical report:

“Taking into consideration the family’s reluctance to undergo more aggressive intervention (e.g., laparotomy) and with the absence of colonic obstruction, we decided to trial volume laxatives to facilitate passage of the golf ball.”

After being given one litre of laxatives, the young bloke was able to push the ball out three hours later.

It goes without saying that the teen was warned not to keep inserting foreign objects into his body.
