Nickelback have often found themselves ridiculed as the the world's most hated band - but according to Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor, the Canadian rockers have "passed the baton" on to a new band.
That's quite a surprise given Taylor and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger haven't always been the best of buds. In 2017, Kroeger called Slipknot a "gimmick" and added that Stone Sour sounded "Nickelback-lite." At the time Taylor kicked back calling him "an idiot" who "is not a liked person" - ouch.
But talking on radio show Jonesy’s Jukebox, Taylor says the world's most hated is now the "awful" Imagine Dragons.
During the interview, host Steve Jones called Nickelback "the scapegoat of rock n roll," to which Taylor responded:
They really are, however, they are passing the baton to Imagine Dragons right now and I love it. I’ll tell you what, they're awful, so that’s cool.”
"And they’re from Vegas, so I’m gonna go home to protests. Can’t show my face in this town now.
“People are slowly coming back to appreciate Nickelback and turning their irksome ire towards Imagine Dragons.”
Maybe times really are changing for the Nickelback. Just last month, bassist and co-founder Mike Kroeger said all band members would "love to" produce a heavy metal or Slayer cover album.
Now THAT would change their rep for sure.
