Nickelback would 'love to' release a heavy metal or Slayer cover album

Nickelback are over singing about photographs or reminders, and are reportedly toying with the idea of releasing music that's much, much heavier than what their traditional fan base is used to.

In an interview with Wall of Sound, Nickelback bassist and co-founder Mike Kroeger said all band members are "metalheads at our core" and shared a personal love for metal's 'Big Four' - Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer.

When asked if the band would consider making a heavier, faster record, Kroger doubled down by saying:

“I would love to. Metal is what makes me go, it’s what I listen to without fail."

If we could actually sink in and do a metal album, all four of us would love it. I know that we’re all – on differing scales – metalheads at our core.

Kroger went on to boast about the band heavy metal credentials.

"We all know everything about the Big Four – Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer," he said.

I would do a Slayer cover album if I could. That’s where my heart lies.

"There are just never enough hours in the day to do everything, but let’s just say I wouldn’t count it out.”

Believe it or not, Nickelback have a history of covering songs from metal's Big Four. Late last year an old clip from 2008 surfaced and went viral of the band covering Metallica's 'Sad But True'.
