Jason Momoa says Tool, Metallica and Black Sabbath inspired his Aquaman character

Rock News 12/12/2018

We think we've just found the most metal superhero movie character.

Aquaman actor Jason Momoa (who also played Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones) revealed in an interview to Metal Hammer that he used the metal stylings of Tool, Metallica and Black Sabbath to inspire him to get into character of Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman.

That's pretty dope.

Momoa elaborates in the interview:

Aquaman's pretty metal. I know no one thinks that, but Aquaman's metal.

I kind of build my characters off of metal songs. Conan (The Barbarian) was really heavy Pantera, I'd say Aquaman was probably mostly built out of Tool and (Metallica's) Kill 'Em All. 'Ticks and Leeches,' if I want to get specific.

There's a lot of Sabbath in there too.

We think Aquaman just shot to the top of our favourite movie character list (well, he's up there with Deadpool).

Aquaman sees Momoa play Arthur Curry, heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, who must step forward to lead his people against his half-brother, Orm, who seeks to unite the seven underwater kingdoms against the surface world.

Aquaman will hit NZ cinemas later this month on Boxing Day, December 26th.Watch the movie trailer below.
