'He knows their stuff': Queen's Roger Taylor on rumour his son Rufus will drum for Foo Fighters

“My son, he's just annoyingly powerful and he's become very, very good."

With Foo Fighters about to perform their first headline shows since Taylor Hawkins' tragic passing, the question still remains: who will be behind the drum kit?

Rumours have been doing the rounds about who will be the next drummer for Foo Fighters. Names like Rufus Taylor and Josh Freese have been thrown around.

With the buzz going around that Rufus may be joining the Foos, his father Roger Taylor of Queen has addressed the rumours.

Recently, Roger Taylor sat down with BBC Radio 2 to talk about his friendship with Taylor Hawkins and the Foo Fighters rumours.

When asked about Rufus and the rumours, Roger had some seriously high praise for his son, saying, "Well, Rufus is phenomenal. He's turned into this scary, great drummer with The Darkness.”

“My son, he's just annoyingly powerful and he's become very, very good. I can't say any more!"

So, will Rufus be touring with Foo Fighters? Roger didn't confirm or deny anything but what he did say was that Rufus plays brilliantly with them and that he knows all their stuff. Interesting.

Of course, Roger also took that time to reflect on the loss of his dear friend Taylor Hawkins, saying, "We're never going to forget him. I can't take him out of my phone."

Now, Roger was super tight with Taylor Hawkins, a self-proclaimed Queen superfan, and even made him the Godfather of Rufus.

Rufus and Taylor were also good pals, with Taylor mentoring him. So, when Taylor tragically passed away in March 2022, it hit the Taylors hard.

In memory of his dear friend, Roger dedicated his OBE to Taylor Hawkins. Meanwhile, Rufus performed 'Best of You' with Foo Fighters at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts in London and LA.

Well, while the answer as to who will cover in Hawkins’ place is still up in the air, I guess we will just have to play the waiting game until the first Foo Fighters performance since Hawkins’ passing next month.
