Critics tipping 'perfect blockbuster' Top Gun: Maverick for Best Picture nomination

Maverick and Iceman aren't far away now!

After being pushed back almost three years, Top Gun: Maverick is nearly here - and we're expecting big things.

First slated for release in 2019, multiple (often COVID-related) hiccups have delayed the film but it's now set for release at the end of the month and early reviews from critics are rolling in.

Almost 35 years after the original, Tom Cruise returns as testing pilot Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell while Val Kilmer reprises his role as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky - with Miles Teller playing new character Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw, the son of Maverick's late friend Goose.

Reviews from critics have been quick to call the film 'perfect', even tipping it for major success come award season.

Check out some of the quick reviews on Twitter below.

If these reviews are anything to go by, the film should be an instant classic - and hopefully does the original justice.
