Metallica shut down fan who said 'James wouldn't approve' of female bagpiper's 'awesome' cover

"This guy doesn't speak on our behalf."

Metallica has shot back at a fan who dissed an “awesome” bagpipe mashup of their hits.

Ally Crowley-Duncan, a bagpiper who goes by Ally The Piper, posted the mashup to her TikTok account. Her video is a compilation of her bagpiping ‘Master of Puppets’, ‘Fade to Black’, ‘One’, ‘Enter Sandman’ and ‘Whiskey in the Jar’.

Some hater commented on her post, saying that Ally’s instrument of choice would be out of place in the metal band.

“Bagpipes don’t belong in Metallica!!” they wrote. “James would not approve 💯😡”.

Metallica’s official TikTok account came across the keyboard warrior and simply brushed him aside while complimenting Ally’s bagpiping abilities.

“This guy doesn’t speak on our behalf,” the band wrote in response, tagging Ally. “You’re awesome.”

Metallica also shared that the bagpipes do, in fact, play a role in the band’s pre-show routine.

“As you probably know, Bon Scott’s bagpipes are the last thing we hear before The Ecstasy of Gold kicks off a gig.”

If you didn't know, they listen to ACDC's 'Long Way to the Top', which includes bagpipes from Bon Scott, before their concerts. They then walk out to the song 'The Ecstasy of Gold', the theme song from the film 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly'.

Ally made a follow-up video basically thanking the band and shooting her shot to play with them at a gig.

Commenters on this follow-up video were just loving the whole situation and some even provided a bit of bagpipe heavy metal history.

“Just loving the fact that this dude who doesn't like your music is single-handedly responsible for the biggest exposure boost of the year,” wrote one person.

“It’s a huge compliment to be able play those songs!” another said. “Metal was born with people saying what you can or can’t do! Go girl you got this!”

“There are bagpipes in AC/DC so why not Metallica?” a third person pondered. “You ROCK”.

“Someone tried to trash you & ended up giving you great publicity,” one more said. “He's the fool, you is cool!!”

Gatekeeping any form of music or art is just a dick move. Great stuff from Metallica (or whoever’s running their TikTok) for making that known.
