Jack Black didn’t know the lyrics to AC/DC’s ‘Big Balls’ before performing it in Auckland

Jack Black explained to Bryce how the surprise performance with Foo Fighters happened.

You’ll know by now that Foo Fighters’ treated Auckland fans at their recent show by bringing out Jack Black for a surprise performance of AC/DC’s ‘Big Balls’, and now, Black has told us how it all came about.

Our very own Bryce Casey recently had a chat with Jack Black and his Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass, following their announcement of The Spicy Meatball Tour coming to New Zealand later this year.

Bryce asked Black how the surprise performance came about, to which Black replied:

“When the Foos are in town, I always gotta check them out. [I] love to watch our good friends… I can’t say no to Dave.

“And if he says ‘hey will you come out and sing Big Balls’, what am I gonna say? No? Obviously the answer’s yes.”

Black went on to explain that since he’s been in Auckland filming The Minecraft movie, he flicked Grohl a text to say, “I heard you’re coming to my town.”

To which Grohl replied, ‘I’m putting you on the list.’

Black continued, “So then I go to the concert, and right before they go on he’s like, ‘will you sing Big Balls?’”

“I was like, ‘f**k I don’t really know the lyrics.”

A surprised Kyle chimes in saying, “right before you go on?!”

“Yes!” Black says, before continuing his reply to Grohl, “alright, yes! Yes I’ll sing ‘Big Balls.’”

Black went on to say that he asked Fiona, the Foo’s Australian drum tech if she knew the lyrics, and when she said yes, Black suggested “let’s tag team it.”

And they nailed the tag-teaming effort. Have a watch back of the performance below.

“The adrenaline carried us through the night,” Black said.
