Pearl Jam release new single 'Dark Matter' - here’s everything you need to know

It's great to new Pearl Jam music back in our lives.

UPDATE (6:30pm NZ time): After a dormant few years, grunge greats Pearl Jam released their new single today, titled 'Dark Matter'.

‘Dark Matter’ came out at 6 PM NZT. It’s the first new single the band has released since 2020’s ‘Gigaton’ and is believed to be the title track for Eddie Vedder and co.’s upcoming album.

Check it out below on Pearl Jam's YouTube account:

Before its release, Republic Records uploaded a clip of ‘Dark Matter’ to Pearl Jam’s Wikipedia page, of all places. Bill Simmons, a sports podcaster and good friend of Vedder, shared the same clip on his most recent podcast too.

A few days ago, the band tweeted another audio clip of gloomy organ chords that fans believe is also from the new single.

‘Dark Matter’ the album is also expected to be here in the coming months. Simmons said on his podcast that the album might come out at the same time as pop star Taylor Swift’s next album, which will be released on April 19.

PearlJamOnline, a fan website, backs this up, reporting that the project is “expected to be released on April 19th or 26th.”

According to SPIN, at the beginning of this month, a bunch of lucky bastards in the music industry listened to a preview of the album. Band members Vedder, Mike McReady and Jeff Ament hosted a listening party at Los Angeles’ Troubadour Club.

“No hyperbole - I think this is our best work,” Vedder reportedly said during the event.

“I couldn’t be prouder of us as a band,” Ament added.

Exclaim shares that the band “recorded the album around a year ago” and Andrew Watts produced it. Watts was the man behind Vedder’s last solo album ‘Earthling’.

That’s about all there is to know about the new single and album, so, once 6 PM comes around, get those speakers ready.

Obviously there is gonna be a shitload more Pearl Jam news and music coming out in the next few weeks and months, so get those speakers ready and keep your eyes and ears peeled on us for the latest.
