YES BOY! The Rock's Bryce Casey nominated for New Zealander of the Year

Bloody well deserved, Bruce!

Bloody well deserved!

The Rock's very own Bryce Casey has been nominated for the 2020 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year award, recognised for his never-ending mental health advocacy after his mammoth Spare Change for Change bowling campaign in May.

Bryce took to the bowling lane at Pins Lincoln in Auckland for 58 hours of non-stop bowling to raise money for I Am Hope, a foundation started by 2019 New Zelanader of the Year winner Mike King that gives young Kiwis free counseling when they need it most.

The 58 hour stint represented one minute for every person that tried to take their own life in 2018.  Last year 3500, young Kiwis tried to take their own lives - that’s more than 10 a day - so every minute Bryce bowled represented one of those New Zealanders.

With the support of tens of thousands of Kiwis and that donated to Bryce's push to make a positive change for mental health in New Zealand, a whopping $366,602 was raised - all of which went straight to I Am Hope. See the moment that figure was announced below.

"I wanted to quit the whole way through, and I didn't. And that's why I'm doing it because I don't want people to give up. So this is for anyone that lost a mate or lost any family members."

You can nominate Bryce for the top award here. Nominations close 15 September.

The 2020 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year will be announced at the New Zealander of the Year Gala Awards in Auckland on 20 February 2020.

We couldn't be prouder of you, Bruce!
