Bloke tries to 'ruin' Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Free Bird' with 'unnecessary banjo' but people love it

“Lynyrd Skynyrd would’ve wanted it this way."

‘Free Bird’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the most celebrated tunes of all time and one bloke has put his own wild spin on it.

TikToker DanOnTheGuitar covered the track’s epic solo on the humble banjo and smashed it out of the park.

Footage of the bro shredding proper redneck country style has gone viral, attracting over 3 million views and 475 thousand likes.

“My fingers hurt and are filthy with garage dust,” Dan wrote in the caption.

Despite Dan saying his banjo playing is “unnecessary” and “ruining” the song, the commenters are absolutely gobsmacked at how much they like the cover.

“You just made ‘Free Bird’ more American,” wrote one person.

“No such thing as unnecessary banjo,” said another. “All banjo is necessary when you play it from the heart brother.”

“This didn’t ruin anything,” a third added. “That’s awesome.”

“Lynyrd Skynyrd would’ve wanted it this way,” one more wrote.

As if playing one of the greatest guitar solos of all time on a different instrument wasn’t good enough, the bloke did it AGAIN when he played ‘Sultans of Swing’ by Dire Straits on a ukulele.

That attracted another 1 million views and just as many comments pointing out how genuinely insane it is.

Keeping on the guitar-adjacent covers epic songs, last year a violinist went viral (more like viral-inist amirite?) for his rendition of ‘Chop Suey’ by System Of A Down’.

And hey, we don’t even need actual instruments to get rocking. Last month some dude blew the internet’s mind by beatboxing heavy metal songs and sounding scarily similar to the original tunes.

On top of that, in late 2023 a bunch of fellas used empty beer bottles to cover ‘Can’t Stop’ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Just goes to show that all you need to truly rock out is the right mindset (and maybe some empty big bots).
