Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ officially announced for Netflix

Netflix officially announced today that Adam Sandler’s 1996 sports comedy is all set for a sequel.

We’re getting more Happy Gilmore!

Netflix officially announced today (May 16) that Adam Sandler’s 1996 sports comedy ‘Happy Gilmore’ is all set for a sequel - of course with Sandler himself set to return as the titular character.

It’s been nearly 30 years since the film was released, which saw Sandler’s character, an angry unsuccessful ice-hockey player, enter a golfing tournament to save his grandmother’s house. Sandler’s character, Happy Gilmore, ends up facing off against the arrogant pro-golder Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald.

Rumours about the sequel have been swirling for a while, with McDonald really ramping up the rumours earlier this year.

In an interview with Cleveland radio’s Ken Carman Show, he said: “I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,'

“I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2…and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So it’s in the works. Fans demand it, damn it!”

We don’t have any details yet of the plot, director, release date or other returning characters, but boy we’re keen to see what direction Sandler takes this one in.
