It sounds like Dewey Finn, A.K.A. Jack Black, is ready to return to the classroom for a School of Rock sequel.

In a new interview with JOE, Jack Black revealed that he’s “ready” for a sequel to the hit 2003 film, which saw his character go from a struggling musician to a fake-but-fun substitute teacher who turns his class into a rock band.

When Black was asked about a potential follow-up to the film, he joked, “I wish there’d be a School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo,” nodding to the 1984 sequel of the musical Breakin’, which is famously titled Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.

“I’m ready,” he added.

“You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius,” Black continued. “And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s real busy right now with ‘White Lotus,’ the best show on TV.”

Black’s been openly keen on a sequel since way back in 2008, when it was reported that director Richard Linklater, producer Scott Rudin and screenwriter Mike White were set to get the second movie in the works. Unfortunately though, it never came to fruition.

“I tried really hard to get all the pieces together,” Black told Page Six four years later.

“I wouldn't want to do it without the original writer and director, and we never all got together and saw eye-to-eye on what the script would be. It was not meant to be, unfortunately, but never say never."

Back in 2022, Black told Entertainment Tonight that School of Rock was “definitely the highlight” of his career, so if everyone can get on the same page, suuuurely this sequel will happen.
